A reminder

Just a quick reminder of the interesting, engaging, creative and entertaining instruction happening at Lake Benton Public School. Most recently, I have watched students become better readers by listening to others read, by reading to others and oneself, by doing word work and writing. I have watched students better understand division with manipulatives. I have watched students better understand the parts of nonfiction text (book anatomy), and I have listened to our students sing and move to the theme from Tchaikovsky’s Nutcracker. While many prepare for the upcoming holiday season, Lake Benton students prepare for a life of learning… and maybe just a bit for the Christmas Season.

Be well learn lots,

Dale

An Apology

I will do better. My apologies for yesterday’s early out. I now know that we could have stayed until 3:00 and still got all home safely. I have many excuses for my mistake and will list them in alphabetical order.

  • An unnatural fear of being trapped at school with no way of getting home to feed the gecko.
  • Barely able to interpret weather radar.
  • Crisis mode induced tunnel vision.
  • Did I mention that I have a needy gecko?
  • Echoes of winters past
  • Farmer’s Almanac
    • (skipping letters for brevity)
  • Intellicast
  • Myopia
  • Scratched crystal ball
  • Voices whispering over and over, “ close school,  close school”
  • Weather.com
  • Weathermen

On a serious note, I know that it is a big deal for families to find care for their children when we change our school hours. For this reason, I am sorry for yesterday’s mistake and will do better in the future.

Welcome to Winter

It’s beginning to look a lot like winter…okay not today, tomorrow or Sunday, but by next week, winter clothing will again be of great value. Please check to make sure that your child has boots, snow pants, winter coat, mittens and a warm hat at school. We get fresh air each day at recess as long as the “feels like” (wind-chill), temperature is above zero degrees Fahrenheit. We do stay in if it is raining or if heavy snow is falling.

Have a wonder filled weekend!

I am confused

The source of my confusion is second grade. I was invited into the second grade classroom to checkout our new phonics curriculum but was surprised to see a classroom full of surgeons. Students/residents, led by Chief Surgeon Alissa Christensen, were cutting up letters to create contraptions/confessions/contradictions/contractions/consolations/concussions/convictions. I am confused. I have an appointment with our Dr. later  today and hope to better understand the need to have students in full surgical room wear cutting up words like Can’t to create words like “cannot”. Confused.
